Description

In this 9-day tour you will stay in the iconic Monteverde Lodge & Gardens and Tortuga Lodge & Gardens featured in National Geographic's "Trip of a Lifetime". Take boat trips in the rain forest, and save precious vacation time by flying in a 5 to 12 passenger aircraft. This itinerary is fully organized by  Costa Rica Expeditions, the most prestigious company in the country.

Fully escorted by professional naturalist guides, you will learn about tropical ecology, participate in converting a bitter cocoa bean into the most beloved flavor on the planet and follow coffee all the way from the fruit to the cup. On a typical tour participants see monkeys, parrots, toucans and sloths to name just a few of the animals that inhabit the rain forest. During the season from July to October you watch Giant Green Sea Turtles lay their eggs on the beach.

DAY 1: Arrival San José, Costa Rica (No meals) (TG)
Arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport. After passing through Immigration you will see a representative who will greet you and give you a sticker to facilitate clearing customs. Also, when you are exiting the building, you’ll see a guide, who will take you to your hotel.
Overnight at: Hotel El Presidente
DAY 2: San José / Nectandra Gardens / Monteverde (B,L,D) (NG)
After a welcome orientation breakfast with your guide, drive 1 ½ hours to Nectandra Cloud Forest Garden.
At the center of Nectandra is the 2 hectare (5 acre) Nectandra Cloud Forest Botanical Garden. A morning hike by the gardens is the ideal introduction to the flora and fauna of Costa Rica.
After Lunch at the Gardens 3 – 3 ½ hour drive to the Monteverde area.

DAY 3: Monteverde (B,L,D) (NG)
After breakfast, guided excursion to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
Afternoon Caburé Chocolate Tour

DAY 4: Monteverde / Arenal (B,L,D) (NG)
Morning departure on a land and boat transfer to Arenal. Enjoy the rainforest with your naturalist guide and explore the surrounding looking for wildlife.
Overnight at: Arenal Manoa. Junior Suite
DAY 5: Arenal (B,L,D) (NG)
Guided walk to the Arenal Hanging Bridges
After lunch, Sky Trek Adventure in Arenal Theme Park
Late Afternoon visit Hidalgo Family Hot Springs
Overnight at: Arenal Manoa. Junior Suite
DAY 6: Arenal / Tortuguero (B,L,D) (NG)
After an early morning breakfast, drive 5 hours to the Caño Blanco dock, where you will meet the boat for the 1 ½ -hour boat ride to Tortuguero.
Overnight at: Tortuga Lodge and Gardens. Downstairs River View Room
DAY 7: Tortuguero (B,L,D) (NG)
In the morning explore the creeks of the Tortuguero National park with your guide. Originally intended to protect a major nesting beach of the Atlantic Green sea turtle.
Visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy Visitor Center
DAY 8: Tortuguero / San Jose (B,L,D) (NG)
Morning departure from Tortuga Lodge, cross the Tortuguero River by boat and board your 30 minute light charter flight from Tortuguero to San José. Upon arrival transportation is provided to a Coffee Plantation.
Doka Estate Coffee Tour – From the seed to the cup
DAY 9: Departure (TG)
Transfer to the International Airport at least three hours prior to the departure time for your flight out of the country.
