San Jose is also home to the largest foreign population in the United States, largely due to its location in Silicon Valley. There are also two major cities, San Francisco and San Jose, California, which contain the second- and third-largest cities in the world in terms of population. Despite all the traffic, Silicon Valley is so big that it has built its own start-up industry and technology tourism. It is also located on one of California's most popular tourist destinations, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge.
San Jose has a ton to offer visitors in and around the center, but also offers easy access to the rest of the Bay Area. If you are arriving from the airport, a direct alternative is the Monterey Airbus, which flies from SFO to SJC and then on to Monterey Bay south of San Jose, surrounded by Monterey's Marina and Prunedale. A day trip to SanJose is easy, but if you have a car and want to drive Caltrain, you can explore the bay in its entirety. If you don't want to drive, you can also take the train from San Francisco to SanJose.
There are plenty of other places to see in San Jose's backyard, but there's no shortage of them in the Bay Area. There are many other places you can see around SanJose, from San Francisco Bay to Monterey Bay and even the Santa Cruz Mountains.

San Jose is part of the nine-member SF Bay Area, which includes San Jose as part of the San Francisco Bay Area, the largest metropolitan area in California with a population of more than 1.5 million people.
Coast Starlight operates once a day to Seattle, Portland, Sacramento and Emeryville, and stops at eight other Capitol Corridor Line stops. Most intercity bus lines connect San Jose, and buses also run south to San Ysidro and Tijuana. The Capitol Corridor runs daily between San Francisco and Sacramento, while trains continue to Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara.
The Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) runs from Stockton, Livermore and Pleasanton to San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley in the morning and returns in the late afternoon and evening. By bus to or from SanJose and back with ACE 125, ACE 110 or ACE 120 and ACE 130 to the Bay Area or San Francisco.
You need to rent a car to get around, but those coming from Southern California have a quick option. San Jose is served by an international airport that offers flights to and from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, Sacramento and San Bernardino. You can fly to or from the airport, which is 10 minutes from downtown SanJose. If you fly to San or from San Jose or the state, you fly to Santa Clara Valley, Bay Area and San Mateo Valley.
Depending on the time of day and traffic situation, it can take 1-2 hours to get from San Francisco or Oakland to San Jose. Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach operates daily between San Jose and San Francisco with stops in Oakland, Santa Clara and Oakland. Other bus lines are fully booked in less than 24 hours on weekdays, weekends and weekends.
