The Waterfront Restaurant opened in 1969, but nothing about it seems dated. That’s probably because Al Falchi, who opened the former longshoremen’s bar, has been careful to keep the restaurant and its menus as fresh as the seafood on your plate.

SFMOMA: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Too many people think that modern art is incomprehensible art. You know, like the all-white or all-gray painting that conveys the dull emptiness of human existence. But that kind of art—Minimalist Abstract Expressionism, or as I like to call it, Silly Art That Even I Could Create—occupies only a few of the 50 gallery rooms inside the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Most of this museum’s art is far more absorbing.

Press Club: No reporters, just fine wines

People have discovered the Press Club in a big way. Since opening in September 2008, it’s been packed on weekend nights with not only the after-work crowd, but later at night with singles who like its contempo vibe. Calling itself an “urban tasting room,” it’s comfortably and uniquely at the halfway point between a wine bar (too sedate) and a nightclub (too rowdy).
